In the middle of thriving Wuhan shines a new golden Oasis. With an adjoining Grade A office tower, Oasis is a multi-layered shopping podium suited to the modern lifestyle of the local white collar workers and the local families. Contrasting the nearby concrete jungle, Oasis is a welcome burst of colour, rich with activity, fun and energy. It’s a haven for parents to take time-out while the children are busy playing sports, taking music lessons or being entertained.

In the name of Feng Shui

A prominent, elevated highway that swoops around the front of the building was of great concern to the Feng Shui Master, who described it as a “sickle ready to cut down the tall office tower”. By incorporating a better brand story into the name and identity design, we were able to appease the Master’s concerns.

Our chosen Chinese name ‘金禾’ (jin he), meaning  ‘golden grain’, speaks of the rich nourishment that wheat, harvested by a sickle, brings to feed the local community. And the English name, Oasis, speaks of a rich, colourful ecosystem, manifesting itself throughout the open layers of architecture inside the shopping podium. From the B2 carpark up to the 4th floor rooftop, wall murals, interior design patterns and public art concepts engage the visitor.

The Oasis logo design gracefully combines the two trains of thought — the golden grain and the freedom of a bird amongst the lush Oasis. Our aim was to evoke a feeling of freedom and rejuvenation throughout the brand identity and its supporting toolkit.

Navigating the layers

The signage planning and design makes a clear distinction between the office experience and the shopping experience in spite of the challenging location of the site. The interior signage carries on with the gold theme in the office tower and reverts to more natural materials in the Oasis shopping podium. A simple locking system for each sign gives them flexibility for future change.

Launch

After a successful leasing programme the project officially launched in November 2017 with a raft of events and promotions attracting the local community.
